This 1-minute almond and oatmeal scrub soap bar is soothing for dry skin, sensitive skin, eczema, and psoriasis. This recipe contains no harmful chemicals.
You’ve probably heard news linking healthy skin with commonly consumed foods, and that includes your breakfast oatmeal.
Though it’s fascinating how beauty experts would often add pantry ingredients into their formulas, there’s actually proof that oatmeal is as effective for skin nourishment as it is for weight loss.
If you’re tired of looking for a soap that is gentle on your sensitive, dry skin, here’s a recipe that will end all your skincare woes.
Benefits Of Oatmeal In Soap
As the main ingredient for our all-natural soap, it’s important to know what specific benefits your skin can reap from adding oatmeal into the recipe.
Even though oatmeal has long been used in history for its curative effects, it continues to amaze us with modern-day studies to back up its claims.
I’ve listed down a few remarkable pros of using oatmeal for your bath bar.
1) Oatmeal Improves Skin Barrier
According to a study, oatmeal extracts help alter the composition of the skin to strengthen its barriers against damage.
It was credited to oatmeal’s ph-buffering quality which retains the ability of the skin to withstand harmful elements.
2) Oatmeal Provides Moisturization
This moisturizing effect is courtesy of the oatmeal’s ability to retain water.
The skin absorbs it easily.
Thanks to its gel-like quality, colloidal oatmeal adds moisture to the skin.
This prevents it from drying and cracking.
3) Oatmeal Has Anti-Inflammatory Properties
If you’re suffering from a serious skin condition such as eczema, psoriasis, acne or hives, your best bet is to use oatmeal for relief.
The beta-glucan content in oatmeal is primarily responsible for the anti-inflammatory activity.
This reduces the redness, swelling and irritation on the skin.
4) Oatmeal Is A Natural Anti-Fungal Remedy
The avenacin compounds present in oatmeal is what relieves you of the often-itchy fungal infection.
When used regularly, you can see a noticeable improvement in your affected skin.
Avenacin compounds particularly target the fungal growth.
5) Oatmeal Has Antioxidants
Aside from its anti-inflammatory properties, oatmeal’s phenolic compounds are responsible for combating toxins.
These toxins influence the aging process. They limit the production of free radicals that attack healthy skin cells.
Apply colloidal oatmeal treatment onto your skin to slow down the photoaging and revive your youthful glow.
6) Oatmeal Protects Your Skin From Sun Damage
Because oatmeal creates a natural barrier, your skin can have a protective shield against harmful UV rays.
The flavonoids present in colloidal oatmeal help absorb ultraviolet rays.
They block them from penetrating the skin’s deep tissues.
This is why women use colloidal oatmeal as lotions and sunscreen.
7) Oatmeal Soothes The Skin
Aside from moisturizing your skin, a topical oatmeal treatment also soothes your rashes.
They can either be caused by poison ivy or hives.
Similarly, it is often used to soothe sunburns and itchy skin.
Oatmeal contains avenanthramides which are responsible for reducing hypersensitivity and irritation on the affected area.
Why Make An Oatmeal Soap For Eczema, Psoriasis, Dry Skin or Sensitive Skin
I recommend making your own oatmeal soap because it ensures that you only use non-chemical ingredients.
Some additional ingredients may counteract the healing process of oatmeal.
Also, products with suspicious components may only worsen your skin’s condition.
By making your own oatmeal-based soap, you can prevent further damage to your skin and still be able to enjoy its awesome benefits.
Colloidal Oats Benefits For The Skin
The term “colloidal oats” basically refers to the formulation in which oats are grounded and suspended in water.
This mixture is then applied topically on affected areas or used in baths by dispersing the pulverized oats in warm water.
Colloidal oats offer a lot of awesome benefits: from moisturization, anti-inflammation, and antifungal activity, to sun protection, itch relief, and anti-aging.
Whether you’re suffering from a skin condition or you’re looking for a mild bath alternative, consider using colloidal oats.

How To Choose The Best Natural Organic Soap Base
You should be mindful of the active ingredients when choosing the right organic soap base.
Among the synthetic chemical ingredients to watch out for include parabens, surfactants, propylene glycol, and artificially-prepared fragrance.
You’ll need a good soap base if you’re going to use it for your own troubled skin.
How To Make An Exfoliating Soap Bar
You’ll need a good soap base for making an exfoliating bar.
For this recipe, I’ve melted an organic soap base using the microwave and added the rolled oats.
After a good stir, you can add a few drops of fragrance (this is why your soap base should be bought unscented) into the mixture before pouring it into the molds.
Let it sit for an hour to set.
