Here are 8 ways to make a DIY spa kit that looks like a luxurious expensive gift, and costs a fraction of the price. It is also really fast and easy to make.
Is an important woman in your life celebrating a milestone or a special occasion soon?
Not to be biased, but people close to me would typically receive personalized gifts from me in the form of a DIY spa kit.
I love making them myself because the process is easy, fun and won’t put a hole in your pockets.
They also make recipients appreciate your thoughtfulness all the more.
Planning on gifting someone? Here’s how you can build a spa kit from the recipe up to the packaging.
How To Make A DIY Spa Kit Without Breaking The Bank: 8 Ways
1. Whip Up Your Own Version Of A Body Scrub
I’ve always wanted to copy the body scrub recipes that are commonly used in store-bought spa treatments.
I like the creamy consistency that looks richly blended which allow you to exfoliate AND moisturize at the same time.
This body scrub recipe makes use of coconut oil as the base.
As for the exfoliators, you can opt for sugar granules since they not only provide softer abrasion but also melt in and moisturize the skin.
You can add a scent of your choice into the mixture using an essential oil before transferring it to a mason jar.
I recommend coordinating your body scrub scent with the rest of the spa items to create a theme.

2. Create Bath Bombs From Scratch
Still, if you want to be whimsy, you can make bath bombs in rainbow colors so they would look good inside gift jars.
I recommend a recipe that won’t need citric acid since it may be costly and hard to find.
A recipe I found doesn’t use citric acid yet still fizzes fine using only baking soda, cornstarch, and lemon juice.
You can use any essential oils that are aromatic and skin rejuvenating at the same time.
Add colors by mixing in different vegetable coloring.
When you’re done mixing, you can now place them in molds.
I suggest that you use a metal spherical mold that easily forms your bath bombs.
These are the molds I like to use for my bath bombs.

3. Craft A DIY Scented Candle
To complete the aromatherapy essentials, you should make a scented DIY candle.
Simply melt beeswax (or soy wax) and mix in food coloring of choice.
Dip a wick after the mixture is transferred into a candle mold, wait until it solidifies and voila! Your candle is ready for gifting.

Simply tie paper twine around the body or put a label on it when packaging.
4. Concoct An Organic Lip Balm
Instead of sneaking in a commercially-bought lippie into the kit, simply make your own natural lip balm!
Melt beeswax and shea butter together. Add drops of preferred essential oil for scent.
You can transfer the mixture into a small glass container for easy application or simply reuse an empty lipstick tube.

5. Make Your Own Foot Soak
This one will perfectly complement your jar for a dry spa treatment.
Simply mix baking soda, Epsom salts, green tea, and tea tree essential oil.
Transfer the dry mixture into a jar.
Add instructions in the label on how to use the item.
Basically, you just need to state: “Add 2 tablespoons into a basin of warm water” in small fonts.

6. Throw In A DIY Loofah Sponge
To spa-ify your kit to the next level, simply make your own gift-able loofah sponge ahead of time.
Take a gourd out in the sun for as little as 2 weeks to dry it out. You can speed up the drying process by dehydrating it in the oven at minimum heat.
Once fully dried, you can chip the skin away and cut it into slices. Loop a string in one of its hollows so it can be hanged in the bathroom.
Watch the video below to learn how you can make your own loofah sponge at home.
7. Mix Your Own Bath Salts
These bath salts are scented and colored so they’ll look posh in the spa kit.
To make one, simply mix Epsom salts, sea salts, and baking soda together in a bowl.
Add a few drops of aromatic oil and food coloring into the mixture before mixing again.
You can then transfer the bath salts into your preferred ready-to-give container.
You can use this container to store the bath salts in.

8. Manufacture Your Own Nourishing Soap
If you fancy adding luxury soap, just try making your own for your loved one instead.
This scrub soap recipe makes use of oatmeal and a natural melt-and-pour soap base for DIY soapmaking. Plus an essential oil of choice for added benefits.
When ready to pour, simply use a rectangular or round mold and allow it to be cooled.
You can use flower-shaped molds like this to make your soap look fancier.
This soap is mild exfoliant and nourishing at the same time.
It leaves your skin soft and radiant after wash.

4 Best DIY Spa Kit Containers
My favorite part of DIY spa kit making is packaging the items with love.
And by love, I mean carefully thought-out design that will make your recipients squeal in delight.
Prepping your spa kit for gifting is easier than you might think, thanks to the following hacks I recommend you follow:
1. Pour Your Cream-Based Spa Treatment In Mason Jars
Craft-grade containers always make my recipients feel special because these items signify creativity.
Using mason jars not only gives the spa recipes a decorative quality, they actually provide storage protection to the cream-based spa essentials to preserve their consistency and prolong their shelf life.
Make sure to find mason jars that come with tight lids to prevent moisture from getting in.
You can even wrap around a craft paper or brown wrapper atop the lid and tie it with paper twine to make it gift-ready.
These are the mason jars I like to use, they look cute too!
2. Store Dry Spa Treatments In Apothecary Jars
I love apothecary jars because they seem vintage and adds a luxury feel into my dry spa products.
If you’ve made a recipe for bath salts, you can transfer it into these jars with a separate scooper for easy dispensing.
I like to use these wooden scoops.
When ready to giveaway, make sure to tie a ribbon from the bottom way up the lid to secure in place.
Bigger apothecary jars can also be used to store bath bombs in.
It’s cute if you can make your contents colorful.
I like these apothecary jars as they come in 3 different sizes.
3. Place Your Spa Kit In A Gift Basket
What makes a spa kit gift-worthy? What else, but the basket itself!
There are a lot of basket types you can choose from, but nothing makes a better choice than a woven basket.
This is because it gives the spa kit a natural feel like the items are sourced organically.
Use a woven basket that has a shallow height so your spa contents can be easily seen.
Otherwise, you can get a deeper basket but place a box in it to elevate the items.
4. Use A Box To Keep The Surprise In
If you prefer to surprise your loved one, it’s best to gift her with a spa kit that is contained inside a box.
Use a cardboard box with lid and fill it with confetti so that the items can sit on it perfectly.
It’s best if you can also tie a paper twine or ribbon and include a tag addressed to the recipient.
I love to use these boxes for my gift baskets.
5. Place The Spa Kit In A Shallow Bushel Basket
A bushel basket is preferable if you want the whole gift to be reused effectively.
This means they can turn the wooden basket into a shower or bath caddy upon use.
This is the perfectly sized bushel basket for the job.
Where To Get DIY Spa Kit Labels
You can always make your own DIY spa kit labels to suit your homemade spa products.
After all, that’s the whole point of going DIY, right? To do everything from scratch.
Fortunately, there are several spa enthusiasts who gladly share their own designs of labels.
Pinterest has a plethora of font and design inspirations that are readily printable.
You can just type “DIY spa kit labels” in the search box and you will discover hundreds of printable labels courtesy of the crafty spa community.
Some of these are free to use and are editable, though they’re not recommended for commercial use.
For that reason, these printables would usually carry generic labels such as for “body scrub”, “body lotion” and “bath salts”.
These templates can be printed on a sticker paper and carved out with a craft knife or cut along the lines with scissors.
Alternatively, you can opt for a personalized and customizable spa kit labels on Etsy for an added personal touch.
They are available for under $10, and you get to have different layouts and label shapes that are perfect for labeling jars, bottles, and packaged soaps and candles.
